Blueberry is very headstrong and solitary, rarely relying on others due to her past, though the only person she is comfortable around is her trainer Skylar. She does not get along well with Kutabeil due to conflicting personalities.

Blueberry was raised by an abusive trainer named Bryce Neuysem as a Trapinch, then abandoned at Pallet Town. The Trapinch as a species were first identified as a new Kanto-region Pokemon and Blueberry was kept in a Pokezoo, where she lived in a very cramped space and received only decent food and attention. She strove for attention - this was what kept her going. While at the zoo she was seen as "a rash animal that whines and cries whenever a person walks by".

Blueberry's strange colors were originally thought to be regular colors - though she was actually a shiny Trapinch. Though, when Skylar came by and saw her, Skylar couldn't help but feel bad for the Trapinch. She had foreknowledge of Trapinch and knew very well that Blueberry was a shiny, so she bought the shiny Trapinch out of the zoo at several thousand dollars and raised it. Though it took a long time, Blueberry was raised to be a very powerful Dragon-type Pokemon.
